My next project for the school is to write them a special song about their school.

UpBeat Music Therapy in Sunday's Columbian
New business news
• UpBeat Music Therapy Services has opened in Vancouver. It is the only music therapy service in Clark County. The company was established by longtime resident Anne Vitort, a former Kindermusik educator. Vitort says music therapists design musical experiences to help clients achieve non-musical goals, such as physical, emotional, cognitive, communication or social goals. No musical experience is necessary for a client to benefit from music’s power to heal. http://www.upbeat musictherapist.com, 360-607-8187 or http://www.music therapy.org.See page E2 in the paper version ~

I also talked to Gloria, who owns Rainy Creek Boutique in the Vancouver Market Place downtown Vancouver, WA. The shop is adorable and I couldn't help myself when I saw two framed floral pictures for my kitchen. Check out her shop!

I talked to 9 wonderful women at the Third Thursday Book Club tonight about music therapy -- Patti, Laurie, Lorraine, Barb, Martha, Kathy, Mary, Pat and Sue. Thanks, ladies, for listening to my music therapy stories and sharing with me your experiences with music! Mary shared that a nurse friend knows firsthand about the use of music in hospice, and Pat mentioned that she read an article recently about the same topic. In January, I chose Daniel Levitin's This is Your Brain on Music for the book group to read and we had a lively discussion about music's effects on the brain. While I worked on my Music Therapy degree at Marylhurst, these amazing, smart and talented women supported and encouraged me all along the way. Thanks, Third Thursday Book Club!

Music Therapy in Clark County
I am so excited to bring music therapy services to Clark County Washington! But I am finding that not many people in our area know what music therapy is or what it can do to promote wellness. So, I have decided it is my mission in 2011 to talk to whomever I can about it! I have set a goal for myself of talking to 1,000 people this year about music therapy.
